5 Bio-Hacks for Increasing Energy, Performance, Healthspan & Lifespan
I love keto. I'm going to talk about keto, but I'm not dogmatic. I think it's one tool out of many tools in the shed so I don't think we should be in ketosis long term. I think we should use it as a very smart ancient healing strategy and flex in and out similar to our ancestors. I want to start these are stats according to the CDC and cancer.org and they are devastating stats:
- 1 out of 3 women are diagnosed with cancer, 1 out of 2 men are diagnosed with cancer
- 60%+ of Americans are diabetic or prediabetic
- By 2032 it’s predicted that 1 out of 2 children will be born on the autism spectrum
Another amazing stat or I should say sad stat: According to a 2004 report by Morgan, Ward, and Barton: "The contribution of cytotoxic chemotherapy to 5-year survival in adult malignancies. ... survival in adults was estimated to be 2.3% in Australia and 2.1% in the USA." That means if somebody had breast cancer and they did only chemotherapy no lifestyle changes five years later in the US the chances of them being alive are 2.1 %. What if I told you the same food given to cancer patients in the hospital going through chemotherapy is the same food that actually could contribute to cancer growth? Because here's the truth: human beings are only species smart enough to create their own food and dumb enough to eat it. When you see these on your labels you are going to think of the two words there: fat-free, sugar-free, all-natural - just think of the chemical storm!
Some other stats on diabetes specifically which is near and dear to my heart I already mentioned:
- 60 percent of Americans are diabetic or pre-diabetic
- 68 percent of these diabetics end up with heart disease
- 16 percent will have a stroke
- 70 percent end up with neuropathy where their nerves are degenerating
The above statistics apply to those who are on medication. Most people don’t understand that just because you are taking medication, it doesn’t mean you are exempt from this set of statistics. Diabetes medication shows that the sugar levels may be getting better, but the diabetes is getting worse.
Diabetes is a lifestyle disease that needs to be treated with lifestyle changes. The disease is on the rise:
- More Cancer: 1in 2 in men, 1 in 3 in women
- More chronic pain and inflammation
- More cardiovascular disease
- More Alzheimer’s: 1 in 1
- More Diabetes
- More Autoimmune disease
The list goes on.
You cannot drug yourself to perfect health. Inside your body right now there are 30 to 70 trillion cells. And there's no pill, there's no surgery, there's no supplement, there's no shot that could replace what you have within your cells right now. It's called innate intelligence.
Think of it as an inner physician, an inner healer that wants to go to work for you. But we have been putting blockages and interferences with this innate intelligence. I believe you are a masterpiece because you are all pieces of the master and when you understand how it's capable of healing you will be blown away by how amazing the human body is.
3 Steps to Healing Your Body:
- Identify Interference
- Remove Interference
- Allow Healing
I'm gonna outline five biohacking tips to help you accomplish those three steps. I'm a keto guy. I think it's important to burn fat instead of sugar and flex in and out of ketosis, so the first hack is going to be to get fat adapted. Keto is not a diet. It's a metabolic process your body is designed to go through a period of ketosis. Every single one of our ancestors did keto. It's not a fad, it's a fact. Every single one of our ancestors did keto, their environment forced them into ketosis. But they also when they had the opportunity got out of ketosis which is metabolic flexibility. We know that ketosis burning fat is the primary fuel source for the body, and we are designed to burn fat. That is our birthright to burn fat. Numerous studies show it benefits all parts of your body.
There are 30 to 70 trillion cells in the body and only two options for fuel: either your cells are stuck burning glucose and sugar, or burning fat and producing ketones. When the cells are stuck burning sugar it's a very toxic fuel source. Cells produce energy via the mitochondria and ATP. It creates toxins, cellular smoke if you will that the cells need to deal with when it's burning sugar it creates a lot of toxins.
If we could teach the body and teach the cells to burn fat it's a much cleaner source of energy versus sugar. So that's what we want to do and I'm going to give you a two-step approach here to burn fat and get into ketosis in seven days without any side effects.
Ketones: “High Octane” Brain Fuel - “Throughout much of human evolution, ketosis likely served as a valuable survival mechanism to fuel brain metabolism during times of food scarcity. Hence, in some ways, the modern diet can be considered “keto-deficient.” (Henderson, 2008)
Bio-hack #1: Get Fat Adapted
How to get fat adapted (ketosis) in 7 days:
-
Follow the 2/2/2/2 rule
Let's talk about the first step, the 2-2-2 rule. Tips for using fat for fuel instead of glucose.
Each day consume the following:
- 2 tablespoons of olive oil or avocado oil
- 2 tablespoons of coconut oil or MCT oil
- 2 tablespoons of grass-fed butter/ghee
- 2 teaspoons of sea salt
These are saturated and monounsaturated fats that support the cells and the membranes. You don't have this in one sitting, it's throughout the whole day. The sea salt is there to replenish the electrolytes. As you lower insulin you get this diuresis you get this electrolyte dumping so it helps to replenish that.
-
Gradually decrease total carbs below 50 grams for the day
The average American is consuming 300 grams of carbs per day. Reduce this slightly each day until you consume less than 50 total grams of carbs.
In seven days they're burning fat instead of sugar. That's called fat-adaptation. You're in ketosis. I call it the great land of ketosis. You start to feel good. It takes eight to twelve weeks of being in ketosis before you're keto-adapted. Keto-adaptation means now your mitochondria and your cells prefer ketones as the fuel source, it's just automatically abusing ketones. Then it takes it to another level. Your brain just turns on, you feel like a rock star mental, you start to break through with weight loss that's eight to 12 weeks. But we don't want to stay in ketosis long term, we want to flex in and out.
What is the keto flu and how do you prevent it?
Consider drinking the Keto Kamp Cocktail each morning:
- 16 ounces of water
- 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar
- 1-2 teaspoons of cream of tartar
- 1 pinch of sea salt
How do you measure ketones? There are 3 ways to measure ketones in the body:
- Beta HydroxyButyrate (BHB)
- Acetoacetate
- Acetone
I don't like Acetoacetate. And I'm going to explain why. When your body is efficient at using the ketones it will not spill out in the urine which is a good thing. But then you'll be like "oh I'm not in ketosis" and you'd be frustrated. I get those emails and comments all the time on my youtube channel, but you could very well be in ketosis. It's just not showing on the urine strips. A lot of people get urine strips because it's very cheap and affordable. I don't recommend it.
When it comes to ketones don't chase ketones, chase results! Higher ketones are not necessarily the goal, just like higher glucose is not the goal. If you have high ketones probably means your body and brain just are not using it efficiently. Optimal blood glucose/ketones:
- Fasted Blood Glucose: 70-90 mg/dL
- Blood Ketones: 0.8 – 2.8 mmol/L
Advanced Testing:
1 Hour Post Prandial:
- Blood Ketones (same range above)
- Blood Glucose: 120 mg/dL or below
2 Hours Postprandial:
- Blood Ketones (same range above)
- Blood Glucose: 100 mg/dL or below
I think it's important to test to see what's going on with your foodю So that right there if you're hitting all this on your keto plan you're rocking it. If you're not, you might have some sensitivities to some foods. You might be eating too many oxalates. You might be having too many nightshades or lectins like peanuts or hummus things. We want to identify to remove it to get a better response here is two ways:
- C8 Caprylic Acid
- Caffeine stimulated ketone production
Bio-hack #2: Avoid Vegetable Oils
What are the chances of developing lung cancer for someone who smokes 2 packs of cigarettes every single day for 28 years? 16% chance of developing lung cancer. What are the chances of developing all types of cancer and/or heart disease from someone who consumed cooked vegetable oils every day for 28 years? 86% chance of developing cancer and or heart disease.
Avoid the following oils Canola oil, Corn oil, Soybean oil, Cottonseed oil, Safflower oil, Peanut oil, Sunflower oil, Grapeseed oil, Fish oil, Rice Bran Oil.
Replace vegetable oils with Olive Oil, Avocado Oil, Grass-Fed Butter or Ghee, Duck Fat, Lard, Coconut Oil.
Bio-hack #3: Practice Fasting Strategies
Fasting gives your gut a reset. Just know that it resets your gut and it just gives your gut a reset. You're eating too often. A University of Virginia study showed it took 14 hours to process a standard American diet meal. When you stop eating food, pretty cool helps increase gut diversity again.
A study published in the Scandinavian Journal of Immunology found that intermittent fasting (alternate-day fasting for 12 weeks) helped Salmonella-infected mice clear the pathogenic bacteria more quickly through a heightened immune response
A study published in the journal Cell Metabolism found that every other day fasting alters the gut microbiome composition to promote an increase in the number of mitochondria in the fat tissue of mice.
A significantly increased abundance of the A. muciniphila and B. fragilis group was observed in all subjects after Islamic fasting when compared with the baseline levels (p=0.004 and 0.008, respectively). Serum fasting glucose and total cholesterol levels were also significantly reduced in all of the subjects (p<0.01 and p=0.009, respectively).
Fasting & Brain Performance:
- BDNF is increased
- Counter Regulatory Hormones Increased
- Blood flow is increased
If you completed 7-day water only fast once per year, you would reduce your risk of cancer by 95%!
Follow the 5-1-1 rule! It is a ketoflex principle. It's a seven-day protocol which is five days intermittent fasting 18/6 and eating keto-friendly meals. One 24-hour fast dinner to dinner and then one day higher carbs no fasting that's a great way to balance mtor in autophagy. It's called the 5-1-1.
Bio-hack #4: Drink Hydrogen Rich Water
Hydrogen Water:
- Hydroxy free radical. One of the nastiest free radicals in the body. Hydrogen helps to get rid of this.
- May assist in autophagy
- May lower blood glucose
- Hydrogen is a redox that works perfectly with hormesis
The study indicates that patients with T2DM may be able to improve their condition by supplementing Hydrogen Water as daily drinking water. Molecular hydrogen exerted therapeutic effects against T2DM by improving hyperglycemia and inhibiting oxidative stress through mechanisms that are associated with the TLR4/MyD88/NF-κB signaling pathway.
Bio-hack #5: Change Your Thoughts Change Your Life
Mahatma Gandhi said:
Your beliefs become your thoughts,
Your thoughts become your words,
Your words become your actions,
Your actions become your habits,
Your habits become your values,
Your values become your destiny.
Biology of belief has proven that a thought is a frequency that crosses your cell membranes and tells your DNA to produce a protein. If it's a negative thought a fearful though you're watching the news all the time it's going to be an inflammatory protein if it's an abundant thought like the conversations we have here it's going to be a healing protein you have 60 000 thoughts a day that's 60 000 opportunities to heal your body every single day who you're spending time with I'm going to wrap this up with the last thing. I encourage you to do whatever it takes to follow your true passion and live on purpose with your purpose.
